What is reentry and why is it important?
Reentry is the process by which a formerly incarcerated individual transitions out of the criminal justice system and returns to their community.
Reentry programs are designed to help individuals successfully rebuild their lives by offering comprehensive support and access to essential resources such as housing and rental assistance, substance use treatment, mental health counseling and job placement services.
These programs play a vital role in reducing recidivism – the likelihood that a person reoffends and returns to the criminal justice system – by providing guidance, stability and hope during a critical time of transition.
